Jill Dial, age 86 of Geneseo passes away surrounded by her family on Wednesday December 23rd. She was born September 2, 1934 in Washington DC to Stella "Iris" and John Witmer Rumsey. She graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School and then Northwestern University with a music degree, and later received her Masters Degree from Northern Illinois University for Special Education and as a reading specialist. She was a pioneer in the Special Education field with a unique ability to work with all ages and disabilities.
She married Billy Dean Dial on November 12, 1966 and moved to Geneseo from Crystal Lake in 1970, where they worked together to help kids with special needs in the Moline and Rock Island schools. Jill also worked at Scott Community College for many years until her retirement. She loved her family and greatly enjoyed gardening and attracting nature to her windows with bribes of food that kept her cats entertained.
Jill is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Jackie & George Voulgaris, her sons Frank Sedlacek, John (Beverly) Dial, Mark (Maryann) Dial, David (Sue) Dial, Vince (Julie) Powell, Mark Schillinger, grandchildren, Eric Sedlacek, MaxRoy Sedlacek, Nichole (Adam Thorp) Sedlacek, Alizabeth (John Arko) Sedlacek, as well as seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill Dial, and a son Terry Sedlacek.
The family would like to thank all who helped and showed support, especially Vince Powell who stopped by several times a day as well as the many neighbors, and healthcare workers. Special thanks to Dr. McCaw and the Vorac Pharmacy staff who helped Jill and her family through these difficult times.
Jill requested that she not have any funeral services but a celebration of life will be arranged when weather and COVID concerns improve. Memorials can be made to a local charity of your choice.
