The Lady Leafs’ gymnastics team finished runner-up at the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Riverside Brookfield won the team title (127 points), Geneseo finished with 106 points and DeKalb finished third with 75.4 points.

Geneseo coach Chris Ward was excited about the Leafs finish over a Barbs team which advanced to the IHSA state competition in 2015.

The Leafs’ Madison Munoz continues to shine earning second in the all-around competition at the invite held at the Geneseo Community Center.

The Leafs’ Madison Munoz continues to shine earning second in the all-around competition at the invite held at the Geneseo Community Center.

Munoz was runner-up in the uneven bars (8.2) and floor routine (8.5).

A junior, Munoz added third-place finishes in the vault (8.6) and balance beam (8.5).

Geneseo’s Alexys Johnson earned an eight-place finish in the all-around competition.

Johnson came in seventh in the vault (8.4), ninth in the uneven bars (5.6) and floor routine (7.4) and finished 11th on the balance beam (6.35).

The Leafs’ Madison Koustas finished ninth in the all-around competition.

Koustas finished in 10th place in the vault (8.0) and also on the bars (4.1).

Koustas added an 11th-place finish with her floor routine (6.6) and had a 13th-place finish on the balance beam (5.2).

Geneseo’s Lilly Henderson finished 10th on the floor exercise (6.8), took 11th in the vault (6.3) and was 12th on the balance beam (6.15).

Erin Starkey earned a 10th-place finish on the balance beam (6.7) and landed 12th place for her floor routine (6.55).

The Geneseo JV team had a few high notes as well.

Brooke Laingen was runner up on the balance beam (5.7), and she added a seventh-place finish with her floor routine (5.0).

Claire Johnson’s floor routine earned her third place (6.7) in the event, and Paige Olson took fifth in the floor competition (6.5).

Michaela McCright landed fifth place on the balance beam (5.1) and added a ninth-place finish in the floor competition (6.0).
