Geneseo vs. East Peoria
The Maple Leafs’ Keaton Rice hit a walk-off grand slam to end the game in the fifth inning 14-2 against East Peoria on May 20.
Eric Westerlund drove in three runs on two hits, and Bo Lindstrom smacked three hits and stole a base.
The Leafs’ Cole Hunzeker drove in two runs, and Cade Humphries had a pair of hits.
Geneseo’s Braden Ries earned the win on the mound pitching two and two-thirds of an inning without allowing a base runner.
Geneseo vs. Dunlap
The Maple Leafs fell in a wild one 14-13 against Dunlap on May 20th.
Dunlap scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh for the comeback win.
Geneseo’s Lindstrom drove in four runs on three hits, and the Leafs’ Devin Haxby stole three bases.
Hunzeker drove in four runs on two hits, and Marshall Rice had a pair of hits.
Geneseo vs. Springfield Southeast
The Maple Leafs defeated Springfield Southeast 12-2 in five innings on May 21.
The Leafs’ Jacob VanDoren drove in two runs, and Hunzeker finished with two hits and a pair of RBIs.
Geneseo’s Lindstrom finished with a hit, an RBI and two stolen bases, Keaton Rice hit a double.
Haxby had a pair of hits, and Nick Anderson earned the win on the mound.
Anderson pitched three inning of relief with six strikeouts, and starter Logan Alexander pitched two innings of hitless ball.
Geneseo ends the season with 27-5 overall record and winners of the Northern Illinois Big 12 championship.
Geneseo coach Scott Christensen said the team success is the product of great assistant coaches like Jayme Farrell and Jason Rice who position the defense and work with the Leafs hitters to make adjustments.
