The Geneseo tennis team repeated as Northern Illinois Big 12 champions on Oct. 8.

Geneseo earned the team title with a 10-point victory over runner-up Ottawa in the 10-team field.

The Leafs’ Jane Thomas and Paige Gramling finished runner-up in No. 1 doubles.

Renee Rumler and Madi Miller won the No. 2 doubles championship in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 8-6.

Kaysey Bos and Michaela McCright scooped up third place in the No. 3 doubles match.

Geneseo’s Erin Starkey finished in third place in the No. 1 singles bracket, and Bryann Brophy earned third in the No. 2 singles’ match.

Geneseo’s next matches will be at the Class 1A Dunlap Sectional starting on Friday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Leafs will be a top contender in the newly formed 1A sectional but will face tough competition from teams like Alleman and host Dunlap.

Players who reach the sectional semifinal round will qualify for the IHSA state tournament hosted in the Chicago suburbs starting on Oct. 20.
