During the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation (IKWF) postseason, Geneseo had six place winners at the regional on Feb. 24.

The wrestlers competed at the Rock Island Sectional on March 2 with the top three place winners in each weight class advancing to the IKWF State Tournament held in Rockford on March 8-9.

A Geneseo Middle School student Zachary Montez finished a stellar season winning a regional and sectional title at 84 pounds.

At state, Montez earned an eighth-place state finish during his sixth-grade season tallying a 48-8 record.

Zachary’s older brother, Anthony Montez, was a sixth-place finisher at state in 2017.

A freshman at Geneseo High School, Anthony was IHSA state qualifier as a freshman.

A sixth grader at Geneseo Middle School, Devin Hornback earned a second-place finish at regionals at 70 pounds and a third-place finish at sectionals.

Hornback was a state qualifier and finished his season with a 29-9 record.

Kye Weinzrel nabbed a runner-up finish at 89 pounds during regionals and he added a third-place finish at sectionals.

A fifth grader at Millikin Elementary, Weinzrel finished the season as a state qualifer with a 33-10 record.

Landen Gunnison captured a fourth-place finish at regionals to qualify for sectionals.

An eighth-grader at Geneseo Middle School, Gunnison finished his season with a 19-12 record.

Josh Hock finished third at regionals to qualify for sectionals.

A seventh grader at Geneseo Middle School, Hock finished the season with a 36-13 record.

A fourth grader at Millikin Elementary, Izzac Gaines finished runner-up at regionals and sectionals to finish his season competing in the intermediate division.

Landen Vincent qualified for sectionals with a third-place regional finish.

A third grader at Northside Elementary, Vincent finished the season with a 27-9 record.
