The Lady Leafs’ soccer team won the Urbana Tournament championship for the third consecutive season and started the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference season with commanding wins over Rochelle and Sterling.

Geneseo at Rochelle

The Lady Leafs’ offense roared to an 8-0 victory to open NIB 12 play at Rochelle High School on April 3.

Geneseo scored seven goals in the first half and scored six goals in the first 20 minutes of play.

The Leafs’ Keeli Frerichs scored in the fourth minute, and Chloe Adams found the back of the net just a few minutes later.

Taylor DeSplinter scored with an assist from Rachel Daniels, and MaKenzie Thompson scored back-to-back goals.

Sydney Anast scored with an assist from DeSplinter, and Brooke Harms scored to give Geneseo a 7-0 lead before halftime.

Sidney Clary capped the scoring with the lone goal of the second half.

Urbana Tournament

The Lady Leafs swept the field at Urbana High School to earn the title on April 6.

In the opening game, Geneseo got off to a good start defeating Marshfield 4-0.

The Lady Leafs’ Thompson scored with an assist from Daniels, and DeSplinter scored with an assist from Frerichs.

Daniels put a shot in the back of the net with an assist from Frerichs, and the Leafs’ Frerichs scored with an assist from Daniels.

In Geneseo’s second-round game, the Lady Leafs’ offense proved to be too much defeating Urbana 6-0.

Frerichs put Geneseo on the board early scoring in the second minute of the match with an assist from DeSplinter.

Geneseo’s offense broke loose in the second half scoring five times.

DeSplinter made it a two-goal lead with an assist from Daniels, and Daniels scored with an assist from DeSplinter just six minutes later.

Thompson expanded the Geneseo lead with an assist from Daniels. The Leafs’ Bailey Huizenga scored a goal, and Jordan Porter scored to cap a big second half.

In the championship game, Geneseo shutout Sacred Heart-Griffin to earn the title with a 2-0 victory.

Frerichs scored to hand Geneseo a one-score lead in the first half.

DeSplinter scored in the second half with an assist from Daniels to give Geneseo a cushion.

Sterling at Geneseo

The Lady Leafs’ completed their eighth consecutive shutout defeating Sterling 9-0 at the Geneseo Soccer Pitch on April 9.

Daniels finished with a hat trick, and Geneseo scored four goals in 12 minutes to build a 7-0 lead by halftime.

Jenah Hart scored a pair of goals, and Thompson scored two goals.

Clary added to Geneseo’s big lead, and DeSplinter tacked on a second-half goal.

Huizenga tallied a pair of assists, and Harms finished with an assist.

Geneseo’s defense didn’t allow any shots on goal with Lauren Pardoe and Cadence Talbert combining to post the shutout in net.
