DeKalb at Geneseo

The Lady Leafs used the long ball to lift them to an 11-5 victory over DeKalb at the JF Edwards Complex on May 7.

Bailey Mitchell hit two home runs and drove in six runs for the Lady Leafs, and Eden McAvoy hit a two-run homer.

Delaney Ostrowski tallied four hits and drove in two runs, and Ava Bieneman finished with two hits, two runs and two steals.

Ostrowski earned the win in the circle with six strikeouts, and Bailey Mitchell pitched well allowing just one hit over two-plus innings.

Geneseo at Princeton

The Lady Leafs’ offense continued to produce during a 10-0 win in six innings over the Lady Tigers at Princeton High School on May 10.

Geneseo scored four runs in the first inning with Mary Thomas driving in two runs with a double, and Bailey Spindel singling home a run.

Geneseo put another four runs on the scoreboard in the third inning with six consecutive players reaching base safely.

Bailey Mitchell finished with a pair of doubles, and Spindel turned in a three-hit performance with three RBI.

Thomas tallied a pair of hits and drove in two runs, and Bieneman finished with a pair of hits and drove in a run.

Ostrowski earned the win pitching three hitless innings with no walks and five strikeouts.

Bailey Mitchell finished the shutout allowing no runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Sterling at Geneseo

The Golden Warriors were able to edge an injury-depleted Lady Leafs 4-3 at the JF Edwards Complex on May 13.

With the game tied at 2, solo home runs in the sixth and seventh gave Sterling a 4-2 edge.

Geneseo was able to put the tying run on third in the seventh, but a pop out to the infield ended the rally.

After Sterling grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Geneseo’s Bieneman doubled to lead off the third inning and advanced to third on an error.

Sterling added a run in the fifth, but Geneseo answered with an RBI double from Bailey Mitchell in the third inning to tie it back up.

Bieneman tallied three hits and scored two runs.

Cora Varland sparked a rally in the seventh hitting a leadoff single and scoring on Bailey Mitchell sacrifice fly to center.

With Ostrowski and Anna Narup out with injuries, Bailey Mitchell performed well in the circle pitching six and a third innings scattering 10 hits allowing three earned runs with a walk and two strikeouts.

Natalie Baumgardner earned her first varsity experience in the circle getting out of a tough jam with a double play in the seventh.

The Lady Leafs will begin postseason play at the Class 3A IVC Regional Semifinal in Chillicothe on Tuesday, May 21 at 4:30 p.m.

“We want to shore up our hitting,” Geneseo Coach Pat Mitchell said. “It’s going to be opportunities for a lot of people and defensively just compete. It’s like we did against Sterling. We competed with what we had on the field.”
