The Maple Leafs downed the Pioneers sweeping the doubles matches to win the dual, 4-1.

In a match that had a postseason feel, Geneseo’s Mason Miller was defeated in the No. 1 singles match against Alleman’s Sean Gelski 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Griffin Tracey earned a win at the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-1.

The Leafs’ Luke Chaney and Ryan Morgan battled for a 6-2, 7-6 (1) victory at No. 1 doubles, and Thomas Robinson and Mason Smith cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

Josh Beeth and Carter Stephenson captured a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

NIB 12 Conference tournament

The Maple Leafs fell two points shy of earning a share of the final NIB 12 Conference title.

Geneseo finished the NIB 12 tournament tied for the most points with Yorkville at Sterling High School on May 11.

However, the Foxes (51) nabbed the overall NIB 12 title with two more dual meet points.

Geneseo (49) finished the season tied with Sterling (49) for second among an eight-team field.

Miller finished third in the No. 1 singles bracket winning a tough third-place match 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Tracey earned a runner-up finish in the No. 2 singles bracket falling 6-4, 6-2 in the championship match.

Chaney and Morgan fought for a 6-4, 6-4 third-place win in the No. 1 doubles match, and Robinson and Smith came away with the title in the No. 2 doubles bracket winning the championship match 6-3, 6-2.

In the No. 3 doubles bracket, Geneseo’s Beeth and Stephenson earned the championship title with a 6-0, 7-5 victory.

The Maple Leafs’ next matches will be at the opening rounds of the Class 1A Rochelle Sectional, on Friday, May 17 starting at 1 p.m.

Players who reach the sectional semifinal round will qualify for the IHSA state tournament hosted in the Chicago suburbs starting on Thursday, May 23.
