The Geneseo baseball team rallied past DeKalb in extra innings, were defeated by Ottawa and hosted United Township on Senior Night.

Parker Magness was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the go-ahead run during Geneseo’s 7-5 win over DeKalb on May 10.

With the game tied at 4 in the eighth, Magness gave Geneseo an edge after earning an RBI the hard way.

However, Geneseo added two more runs to secure the win.

Colton Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run in the eighth inning, and Erik Stenzel drove in another run with a single.

Garcia tripled and drove in three RBI in the game, and PJ Moser doubled and drove in a run.

Zac Olson reached base three times and scored three runs.

Geneseo at Ottawa

The Maple Leafs couldn’t overcome a bad start falling 5-2 against the Pirates at Stone Field on May 13.

Ottawa built a 4-0 lead after two innings, but Geneseo’s Cole Hartman closed the gap with a two-run single in the third inning.

However, Geneseo was held to just one hit the rest of the game.

Nathan Beneke and Mitchel Benhart each had hits for the Leafs.

United Township at Geneseo

The Maple Leafs’ Jaren Brucher and Garcia combined to pitch a shutout during Geneseo’s 7-0 victory on Senior Night at Stone Field on May 14.

Brucher pitched six innings allowing four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts to earn the win, and

Garcia kept UT off the board to preserve the shutout.

Payton Clauson had a pair of hits and drove in two RBI, and Garcia drove in a pair of runs.

Geneseo will compete in the Class 3A IVC Regional, but the Maple Leafs will host the first game at Stone Field against Peoria on Monday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m.
