Galva News publisher adds Kewanee duties

Dee Evans, publisher of the Galva News and four other area GateHouse Media, Inc. newspapers, has been named publisher of the Kewanee Star Courier. She assumed her duties on Sept. 8.
Evans replaces Sue Griffith, who resigned to accept a job in Peru, Ill.
In addition to the Galva News, Evans already is publisher of three weekly newspapers: Geneseo Republic, Orion Gazette and Cambridge Chronicle. She also oversees publication of the Henry County Advertizer/Tri-County Shopper, an advertisements-only publication.
‘‘I’m excited to take on a daily newspaper,’’ Evans said. ‘‘Grouping the Star Courier with the other four newspapers, all weeklies and all in Henry County, gives us a lot of flexibility and gives all the products a chance to improve and help each other.’’
Evans joined GateHouse Media in 1998 and served as a sales representative and sales manager in Geneseo before taking over as publisher of the four weeklies.
‘‘Initially, my intentions are to be in Kewanee Mondays and Wednesdays and in Geneseo on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Friday used as a flex day,’’ Evans said. ‘‘By no means does this mean I am a part-time publisher at any of the five sites. I will be actively involved in the operations at all five properties.’’
Evans said she will name a general manager at the Star Courier to act as liaison during her time away from the office.
