Need a job? Agencies can help work toward that
During the current economic crisis, many people are looking for employment opportunities, but are unsure where and how to begin their search. Presently, help is available in a variety places within Henry and Rock Island counties.
Partners in Job Training and Placement is located in the Kewanee Community Education Center, 404 E. 3rd St., Kewanee, directly across the street from the police station. Lynn Chizmar, Partners Career Advisor, is available for job search assistance on Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 to 11 am. Interested persons can call the office at 852-6544.
Also on site at the Community Education Center are Margaret Burke, Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging Employment Assistant, and Veterans Employment Representative John Tolle, from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Burke is available in Kewanee to assist seniors on Thursdays and Fridays at (309) 738-7021, and Tolle can be reached at his Moline office, (309) 764-8731, Ext. 140, for further assistance to veterans.
On Tuesday, April 14, there will be an open house at the Community Education Center from 4 to 7 p.m. It will be open to persons interested in pursuing a new career or in learning new skills. Information will be provided in the following areas: college classes in welding, auto technician, CNA, EMS-paramedic, horticulture and warehousing; Black Hawk East Campus classes in veterinary assistant, maintenance mechanic, tech savvy computers, dialysis tech and pharmacy tech; and Adult Education GED classes.
There are also Employment Success Workshops provided free of charge by Success Network JobNET every Monday at the Illinois Employment and Training Center, 4703 16th St., Suite F, Moline, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Interested job seekers are encouraged to bring a copy of their resume and to arrive on time and dressed for an interview.
