Cokel's Muffler Shop on the east side of Galva reopened Monday after being closed for seven months.

The shop which Steve Cokel had operated in Galva for nearly 17 years closed on Dec. 6 when Cokel died suddenly.

The shop is open with Jim DeCrane conducting the labor. Tammy Cokel, Steve’s wife, is the owner. She said DeCrane had spent a lot of time at the shop with her husband.

“Steve called him his stepson,” she said of DeCrane, a Galva native.

The shop is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and closed on Saturday and Sunday. DeCrane will install mufflers and hitches.

Cokel has also started detailing vehicles at the location. She is also open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. She presently has been working on cars and trucks but has been asked to start detailing semis and tractors. She said she might hire additional help and work more hours into the evening if business increases.

“Please give us a chance as we are here to help you,” she said.
