Bishop Hill to present "Folksongs of Woody Guthrie"
The Bishop Hill Heritage Association is hosting a free concert called This Land is your Land: The Folksongs of Woody Guthrie at 7 p.m. in the Dairy Building on Friday, October 29. Woody Guthrie (1912-1967) is America’s most legendary folksong writer. His music continues to uplift and excite musicians and audiences around the world. Inspired by Guthrie’s most famous song, This Land Is Your Land features the performance (guitar and vocal) of several Guthrie songs, as well as commentary on the time period of each song. The program also places Guthrie and his music in a larger historical context while also offering details on his life. Chicago-based singer and guitarist Bucky Halker brings a sample of these songs to life through both performance and commentary.
This program runs approximately 60-70 minutes, with additional time for questions and answers. It is free and open to the public due to the sponsorships of the BHHA and the Illinois Humanities Council Road Scholar Speakers Bureau. The Dairy Building is located at 410 North Erickson Street.
