Cookin' with J & K: Summertime enjoyments

July is over and August is on its way, lots of produce in the gardens.

Try to enjoy the rest of the warm summer we are having. We will soon be complaining of the cold, and thinking of apple pie and pumpkin pie and all the good fall eating.

Broccoli Salad

5 cups broccoli florets

1 medium red onion chopped

¾ cup chopped pecans

¾ cup raisins or cran-raisins

6 slices crumbled bacon (add just before serving)

Dressing

1 cup Hellmann’s mayonnaise

¼ cup sugar

2 T. milk

2 T. apple cider vinegar

Mix together, add to broccoli and mix.

Put cucumber peels on an ant hill and the ants will go away.

Microwave Bread and Butter Pickles

5 cucumbers sliced not peeled

1 onion, sliced

2 cups sugar

1 cup vinegar

salt

1 teaspoon turmeric

1 teaspoon celery seed

1 teaspoon mustard seed

Microwave 4 minutes at a time until they are transparent.

While hot, you can put in sterilized jars and seal.
