Demo derby and car show headline benefit effort

The 2013 Jackie (Carey) English Alpha 1 Awareness Demolition Derby and Car Show will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Henry County Fairgrounds in Cambridge.

The car show will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the grandstand and the demolition derby starts at 2 p.m.

"Last year's event was so popular and everyone felt such an overwhelming sense of selflessness in bringing awareness to Alpha 1, and supporting Jackie and her family, that coordinators of the event decided do it again this year" noted Misty Wilson, organizer for the event. "I'm proud to announce that Viola Boyz Demolition will be donating their services again to run the event, and we are hoping for another great day that will help raise awareness for Alpha 1 and also continue to help Jackie".

Proceeds from the 2012 benefit fundraiser helped English - who is known in the AlWood area partially through her family's participation in Ridgewood co-op sports - pay down on medical bills that were mounting with no way for her to pay since she didn't qualify for health insurance due to her condition and she is currently unable to work. English is still dealing with her illness on a daily basis and is continually acquiring more mounting medical bills.

A "People's Choice Award" will be awarded for the public's favorite car displayed during the "Alpha 1 awareness car show," and the winner will be announced at the end of the Demolition Derby. To enter a car in the car show a minimal donation will be collected. In lieu of door prizes for the car show, each entry in the car show will receive free admission to the demo.
