Geneseo’s 11U Cal Ripken baseball team captured the Illinois State title July 16-17, marking the second time the team has won the state tournament. The team won the 10U tournament last year.

This past weekend, Geneseo defeated Galesburg National, 18-2; Mattoon, 6-5; Homewood, 12-2; and Homewood, 8-5.

The Geneseo team advances to the Ohio Valley Regional in Niles, Mich. this weekend.

Geneseo will square off against East Kentucky at 10 a.m. today, followed by a 7 p.m. contest with Brandywine, Mich. July 24 and a 1 p.m. showdown with Central Indiana July 25. The single elimination tournament begins July 26.
