Open forum to discuss possible Galva tax increase

Carol Townsend

The Galva School Board will host an open forum meeting for persons interested in possibly proposing a tax referendum for Galva School District residents.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9 in the junior-senior high school cafeteria.

The meeting is open to all people interested in learning more about the possible referendum and/or being part of a group to help get the issue on the November election ballot.

Such referendums – by law – must be initiated and promoted by private citizens, and not school boards.

If a referendum is something that Galva taxpayers are interested in, the board would have to vote on it at their Aug. 23 meeting. That’s because the referendum must be added to the ballot no later than 65 days before the election.

The board will have Galva School District figures available at the meeting.
