First Baptist Church of Galva is serving as a drop-off location for this year’s “Shoes for Orphan Souls” program, in conjunction with the WDLM radio station, East Moline.

Buckner Orphan Care International, working with children since 1995, has collected over 950,000 pairs of shoes to distribute to children in orphanages in over 30 countries, including the U.S.

Marlene Manning, a First Baptist Church member, is currently in Peru, South America, delivering some of the shoes.

The church will be collecting new shoes, socks and shoe laces June 21-28, then ship them to Buckner.

The public can help by:

•donating a new pair of shoes; all types are welcome, but warm shoes for teenagers sizes 3-9 are most urgently needed.

•donating $5 to help ship a pair of shoes

•donating cash

•encourage others to donate

Donations will be accepted at the church from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday or on Sunday mornings between June 21 and June 28. Enter through the door to the Educational Building.

The church is located at 203 NW 4th Ave.
