Monmouth-based duo Surprisingly Hip will be featured at the Galva Arts Council Coffeehouse at the GAC building on Saturday, Jan. 9.

The duo features Julia Andrews on keyboard and vocals, and Brian Daw on bass. Surprisingly Hip, now in their fourth year as a group, brings soul, gospel, swing, and blues styles to their unique jazz sound.

Andrews is a member of the Monmouth College music faculty, while Daw is a violin maker who operates his own business building and repairing stringed instruments.

An open-mic segment will follow the featured artists, with all interested musicians and performers invited to appear. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the featured performance starting at 7:30 p.m.

Refreshments are provided and admission is free, though donations are gratefully accepted.
