Isaiah Fisher, 7, of Sheffield, gestures as he does an impersonation of the late Michael Jackson during a routine to Jackson’s song “Billie Jean” during Sunday’s Galva Freedom Fest talent show, held in Wiley Park.

Technical difficulties arose as Michelle VanOpdorp offered a vocal solo to Reba McIntire’s song “Fancy” during Sunday’s Galva Freedom Fest talent show. The music skipped, making it impossible for her to follow.

But VanOpdorp handled it like a champion, graciously wishing attendees a good July 4 as she drew her abbreviated performance to a close.

In a few minutes, she was a champion indeed. Judges awarded her the overall title in the show, based upon her rich vocal tones.

VanOpdorp, of Geneseo, topped 14 other competitors in the event, held on a stage on the north side of the park.

Van Opdorp received a $35 cash prize.

John Sloan was emcee.

Judges were Natalie Hulstrom, Michelle Warner and Natalie Simmons.

Directors were Sharon Murray and Barb Pittard.
