Graduation nears

The final days are dwindling for Orion High School seniors.

Before the hour-long graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, junior ushers Janel Cross, Josh Hutton, Eric Smith, Jamie Harrington, Tori Matzen and Rob McDonnell will greet the public.

Junior marshals Alyssa Anderson and Jim Hills will lead the seniors into the gym.

Directed by Josh Hahn, the high school band will play Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” for the processional.

School board president Doug Nelson will speak.

After Lauren Hills, senior class president, gives the welcome, Emma Kulig will deliver a speech.

Hills then will present the lancer to Tom Hollars, president of the junior class. Representing the best traditions of OHS, the lancer is festooned with ribbons from previous classes.

Senior musicians will perform “Defying Gravity” from the musical “Wicked.”

Principal Ron Harris will honor the top students in the class and present special awards.

After school board members present diplomas, Andrea DeDecker, president of Student Council, will give the farewell.

The new graduates will leave the gym to the strains of “Pomp and Circumstance.”
