Records set, GMS places second in conference

This past junior high school girls’ track season, the Geneseo Lady Leafs finished with several top place finishes. The seventh grade girls placed first against John Deere and Alleman, second at the Rockridge Invite and in conference and third at the Geneseo Invite. The eighth grade girls nabbed two firsts, against John Deere and Alleman and at the Geneseo Invite and then took second at the Rockridge Invite and in conference.

It was also a record-setting season for Geneseo as Taylor Wise and Olivia Goethals broke Tracy (Johnsen) Wise’s hurdles record of 17.0 seconds from 1986. Both girls broke the record at the conference meet. Goethals broke the record first with a time of 16.89, but shortly after that in the next heat Wise broke the record in 16.57. Wise is the current record holder.

7th grade vs. John Deere and Alleman

First place- Emily Ford, triple jump, 25-3 3/4; Hannah Waller, long jump, 11-9; Danielle Manna, 100-m dash, 15.06; Melissa Edwards, discus, 49-4 1/2 and 4x400 relay, 4:54.41.  Second place- 4x100-m relay, 1:00.5; Ford, 800-m run, 2:47.06 and 1600-m run, 6:13.5; Rachel Morton, long jump, 11-9 and 400-m dash, 1:12.65; Rachel Ganson, high jump, 3-8; 4x200-m relay, 2:24.15; and Kelcey Adams, 200-m dash, 32.18. Third place- Margaret Schlindwein, 800-m run, 3:02.01; Mallory Wirth, 100-m hurdles, 20.62; Ganson, triple jump, 23-8 1/2; Katelyn Mundt, long jump, 11-1; Courtney Cutlip, 400-m dash, 1:13.20; Emily Diehl, high jump, 3-8; Sydney Rusk, discus, 45-8 1/2; and Jayde Rose, 200-m dash, 33.26.

8th grade vs. John Deere and Alleman

First place- Goethals, 100-m hurdles, 17.47; Christina Furan, long jump, 14-1; Anna Mason, triple jump, 25-4 1/2; Kaci Storm, 400-m dash, 1:07.97; Elizabeth Peterson, high jump, 4-2; and Wise, 200-m dash, 28.84. Second place- Wise, 100-m hurdles, 17.49; Bethany Storm, long jump, 13-4; Jacqueline DeFauw, 25-3 1/2; Goethals, 100-m dash, 14.19; Peterson, 400-m dash, 1:11.06; Kaci Storm, high jump, 4-2; Paige Gatter, 1600-m run, 6:47.97; and 4x400-m relay, 5:18.31. Third place- Britta Conrad, 800-m run, 2:59.75; Storm, 18.53; Hannah Lohman, long jump, 12-3; Gatter, triple jump, 23-8; Bethany Storm, 100-m dash, 14.93; Jade Mariman, 200-m dash, 31.09.

7th grade Geneseo Invite

Second place- Waller, hurdles, 20.73; 4x200-m relay, 2:13.25; and 4x400-m relay, 4:57.94.  Third place- 4x100-m relay, 59.07; Ganson, high jump, 4-0; and Waller, long jump, 12-6.

8th grade Geneseo Invite

First place- Goethals, 100-m hurdles, 17.41; Kaci Storm, 400-m dash, 1:06.00 and high jump, 4-8; 4x400-m relay, 5:02.38.  Second place- 4x100-m relay, 55.17; Wise, 100-m hurdles, 17.44; 4x200-m relay, 2:01.97; and DeFauw, high jump, 4-6.

7th grade at Rockridge Invite

Second place- Waller, 100-m hurdles, 19.75; Ford, 1600-m run, 6:20.13; Danielle Manna, 100-m dash, 14.66; and 4x200-m relay, 2:12.00. Third place- Waller, long jump, 12-2; Ganson, high jump, 4-0; Margaret Schlindwein, 1600-m run, 6:42.97; Hannah Johnson, 100-m dash, 14.94; Ford, 800-m run, 2:55.22; Adams, 200-m dash, 32.15; and 4x400-m relay, 5:00.62.

8th grade at Rockridge Invite

Second place- Bethany Storm, long jump, 12-7; 4x100-m relay, 1:00.0; Mariman, 1:12.00; 4x200-m relay, 2:08.88; Lohman, 3:06.50; Kelsey Nystrom, 200-m dash, 30.06; and 4x400-m relay, 5:08.44. Third place- Lohman, long jump, 12-5; Gatter, 1600-m run, 6:50.60 and 800-m run, 3:08.79; and Pearl Viane, 100-m dash, 14.83.

The Lady Leafs also competed at the conference meet and both squads captured second-place finishes.

The seventh grade results are as follows: 800-m run- Ford, third, 2:40.19 and Schlindwein, fifth, 2:45.22; 4x100-m relay of Manna, Wirth, Ganson and Johnson, third, 58.38; 100-m hurdles- Waller, third, 20.20; Wirth, fourth, 20.51; and Ganson, sixth, 20.57. 400-m dash- Manna, third; Rachel Morton, fourth; and Adams, fifth. 1600-m run- Ford, third; and Schlindwein, fifth.

The eighth grade results are as follows: 800-m run- Lohman, seventh, 2:57.56; Gatter, ninth, 2:59.59; and Andrea Bush, 10th, 3:02.99. 200-m dash- Wise, second, 28.64; Mariman, 10th, 31.50; and Nystrom, 13th. 4x100-m relay of Kaci Storm, Goethals, Viane and Wise, first, 54.71. 100-m hurdles- Wise, first, 16.57; Goethals, second, 16.89; and Kaci Storm, fourth, 18.11. 400-m dash- Kaci Storm, first, 1:04.95; and Mariman, 10th, 1:13.99. 1600-m run- Gatter, fourth, 6:25.08; Lohman, eighth, 6:53.73; and Mason, ninth, 6:54.47. 100-m dash- Goethals, seventh, 14.05; Bethany Storm, 11th, 14.42; and Viane, 13th, 14.62. 4x200-m relay of DeFauw, Bethany Storm, Viane and Wise, fourth, 2:03.36. 4x400-m relay of Mariman, Nystrom, Gatter and Goethals, third, 4:56.83.
