Celebrating Independence Day

Orion will celebrate Independence Day on Thursday, July 3.

St. Paul Lutheran Church will host a pork chop supper and ice cream social at 5 p.m. in The Ark. Included in the menu are pork chop sandwiches, baked beans, potato chips, beverages and ice cream. Also available will be cakes and pies.

The Orion Community Band will play from 7 to 8 p.m. in the church parking lot. People attending the concert should bring lawn chairs.

The Orion Fireworks Festival begins with a lighted parade at dusk.

Parade entries will leave Orion High School and travel down 11th Avenue to Eighth Street, then move south to 12th Avenue and go back to the high school.

Shortly after the parade, a fireworks display will begin at Charger Field.

Cash prizes of $100, $50 and $25 will be awarded to the top three entries in the parade.

Anyone interested in participating in the parade should send a registration form to Deena Johnson, P.O. Box 664, Orion IL?61273. Forms have been printed in the Orion Gazette.

Parade entries need to be at the high school between 7:45 and 8:15 p.m.

The rain date is Friday, July 4.
