Ballroom duo dances way to talent show title

Nelson Kendall catches his partner, Lisa Wendel, during a ballroom dance they performed in Friday’s Freedom Fest talent show held in Wiley Park. The couple, both Galva High School students, wowed the crowd and judges with their moves to “The Merengue,” being named overall champions in the process.

Ballroom dancers Lisa Wendel of Bishop Hill and Nelson Kendall of Galva won overall honors at the annual Galva Freedom Fest talent show. They danced to "The Merengue," to the delight of the crowd and judges.

Other top finishers were:

13 & under groups: 1. Shay Hill of Galva and Emily Burmeier of Kewanee, tap dance; 2. Galva Jr. High Dance Team; 3. Cambridge Jr. High Dance Team

10-13 single acts: 1. Brandi Barrett of Galva, vocal solo; 2. Chelsey Wright of Kewanee, vocal solo; 3. Danielle Brooks of Cambridge, vocal solo

14 & over groups: 1. Cambridge High School Dance Team
