During “St. Louis Blues,” Orion High School student Jim Hills, front, plays tenor saxophone with the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Youth Jazz Band on Wednesday, July 9, in the Central Park band shell, Orion. The performance preceded the Orion Community Band concert and the “Field of Dreams” showing. Hills and the youth band will play at the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival later this month in Davenport.

Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band will be featured in Main Street Orion’s sixth annual Jazz in the Park.

The band shell in Central Park, Orion, will echo with music from 7 to 10 p.m. on Monday, July 21.

Advance tickets will be sold through Friday, July 18. Tickets will be available at the gate.

A sandwich supper will begin at 6 p.m., followed by an ice cream social.

Allred is a former Orion resident who regularly brings his band to the area for the Bix Biederbecke Festival.

His band has been playing for 19 years and has recorded 12 CDs. The band uses a five-horn frontline, similiar to bands such as Matty Matlock and Billy Maxted.

Performing between Allred’s sets will be the Orion Community Band. The band consists of more than 60 members from the area.

In case of rain, the event will be held at Orion Middle School.

Sponsors of the event are Kirk Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, BankORION, Modern Woodmen, Frontier Communications and Casey’s General Store.
