The Geneseo High?School boys’ golf team hosted its annual Geneseo Invite Aug. 30 at Maple Bluff Golf Course with 21 teams competing this year. The Leafs placed 13th overall with a total score of 331. Moline won the invite with a combined team score of 300.

“I don’t think they were happy with the way they played,” said head coach Dave Martin. “I think they are looking for more. Off the tee is where the guys said they thought they struggled.”

Taylor Mighell led the way for Geneseo with an 81 for the 18-hole course as he shot  a 41 on the front nine and a 40 on the back. Mark?Converse came in second for Geneseo with an 82 (40-front nine, 42-back nine), while Max Haverland finished with an 84 (42- front nine, 42-back nine).

Alec Cheek shot an 85 (40-front nine, 45-back nine) for the day, while teammate Nick Menozi ended the course with an 89 (43-front nine, 46-back nine). Grant Wahlheim rounded out the effort with a 92 (39-front nine, 53-back nine).

“We need to work on our mental part of the game and focus on one hole at a time,” said Martin. “But I am happy with where we are at and they are a fun group to be around.”

The Leafs will next compete in the Rock Falls Invite at 9 a.m. Sept. 6, followed by a road match with Moline and Rock Island at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 9 at Short Hills Country Club.
