Street fest, car show draw crowds

Craig Piggott of Cambridge won Best of Show, Modified, with his 1966 Chevy Impala during the 6th Annual Car Show and Family Fun Fest sponsored by Cambridge Main Street.

    The weather was ideal for the 6th Annual Car Show and Family Fun Fest Saturday, Aug. 16. The event, sponsored by Cambridge Main Street, was a success according to Sheryl King, Cambridge Main Street director.

    Several events were held throughout the day including the car show, antique tractor show, kiddie pedal pull, hot dog eating contest, cow chip bingo, a ‘Just for Fun’ dog show and a teen dance. The night concluded with a street dance.

    Over 140 antique cars, tractors and motorcycles were on hand.

    Jack Millage of East Moline won best of show, original-restored, with his 1956 Ford T-Bird.

    Craig Piggott of Cambridge took home best of show, modified, with his 1966 Chevy Impala.

    The Cambridge Main Street award was presented to Butch Penney of Moline for his 1935 Ford Coupe.

    Frank Solis of Rock Island won the best Chevy honors with his 1934 Chevy Coupe. Best Ford honors went to Francis Rocket of Lacon with his 1954 Ford Skyliner. Bill and Kathy Parker won the best GM award with their 1968 Pontiac Firebird and Mike Adams of Milan had the best Mopar with his 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda.

    Other winners included:

    Original-Restored Stock pre-1949—Shirley Burns of Cambridge, first with her 1948 Chevy Fleetmaster, and Jerry Clark of Geneseo, second.

    Vette 1953-1967—J. B. Bordner of Bartonville, first with a 1965 Chevy Corvette.

    Original-Restored stock 1950-1959—Dale and Linda Doubler of Cambridge, first with their 1957 Chevy Bel Air; Steve Knochenmus of Andover, second and Dennis Dipple of Davenport, third. Other participants included Dick Samuelson of Taylor Ridge, Ronald Johnson of Cambridge and George Sodeman of Atkinson.

    Vette 1968-1983—Al Durbin of East Moline, first with his 1974 Corvette Stringray; Gary Middleton of Morrison, second and Gary VanHyfte of Atkinson, third. Other participants were Richard Burns of Cambridge, Gary Boberg of Cambridge and Richard Lashbrook of Kewanee.

    Original-Restored Stock 1960-69—Joe Grant of Eldridge, first with his 1964 Chevy Biscayne; Wayne Morris of Cambridge, second and Jim Taylor of Lynn Center, third. Other participants were Dick Shutt of East Moline, Dick and Berni Taets of Sterling, Larry Nickerson of Moline, Scott and Linda Shipman of Geneseo, Linda Ringier of Orion, Brenda Johanson of Rock Island, Bob Corrigan of Oneida, Alan Anderson of Altona and Sam McKie of Oneida.

    Original-Restored 1990-Present—Mike Nieslawski of LaSalle, first with his 2005 Chevy Tony Stewart Monte Carlo; Jon Smith of Orion and Joe Doubet of Cambridge, second and Randy Wilson of Moline, third. Ray Crampton of Clinton, Iowa, was also a participant.

    4-Door—Kevin Scott of Cambridge, first with his 1964 Chevy Impala; Jodi Kolb of Cambridge, second and Ron Martin of Cambridge, third.

    Street Rod Pre 1949—Chuck Thompson of LeClaire, Iowa, first with a 1933 Ford 3 Window Coupe; Al Myrick of Davenport, Iowa, second and Bruce Woods of East Moline, third. Other participants were Butch Penney of Moline, Marty Nordstrom of Orion, Frank Shambaugh of Annawan, Kevin Echelberger of Cambridge, Craig Kuriger of Geneseo, Randy and June Hagerty of LaFayette, DeWayne Taets of Coal Valley and Bill Johanson of Rock Island.

    Modified two-wheel drive trucks—Dan and Maria Garcia of Kewanee, first with a 1992 Chevy Sportside; Dick VanDine of Colona, second and Sharon Swan of Erie, third. Other participants were Grady Usrey of Cambridge, Chuck Chandler of Moline, Steve Holper of Andover, Jesse James of Erie and Randy Witte of Kewanee.

    Four-wheel drive trucks—Jay Verscheure of Geneseo, first with a 1979 Chevy K 10; Mike Curtis of Ophiem and Emil Mattan of Cambridge, tied for second and Corey Finch of Cambridge, third. Other participants were Sharon Casteel of Cambridge, Jamie Schnowske of Orion, Brian Boelens of Cambridge, Lance DeDecker of Cambridge and Steve Doubit of Atkinson.

    Motorcycles—Logan and Marilyn Gibbons of Cambridge, first with a 1980 Shovel; Ron Witt of Kewanee, second and Tyler Stiner and Brad Sloan, both of Cambridge, tied for third. Other participants were Ronnie Martin of Cambridge, Steve Martin of Cambridge, Jason Crapnell of Cambridge, Kenny Beam of Cambridge and Adam Herrick of Cambridge.

    Imports—Donna Morse of Lyndon, first with her 2000 Volkwagon Beetle GLS; Jeff Raifsnider of Cambridge, second and Harry Page of Eureka, third. Other participants were Jason Brokaw of Cambridge, Joe Cleavinger of Rushville, Jim Walters of Port Byron, Harry Blewett of Dubuque, Iowa, and Mike Humphrey of East Moline.

    Under Construction—Joe Whitson of Rock Island, first with his 1929 Ford 2-Door Sedan; Don Morgan of Geneseo, second and Gary Boberg of Cambridge, third. Alan Thede Sr. of Davenport and Ron Wunderle of Cambridge also participated in the class.

    Class 1 0-40 lbs.—Jarrett Lund, first; Ella Jeffries, second and Rodney Beam, third.

    Class 2 41-55 lbs.—Karlee Nussear, first; Ryder Schnowske, second and Trent Chamberlain, third.

    Class 3 56-75 lbs.—Ethan King, first; Brockton Reed, second and Grace Ford, third.

    Dog show winners were: Alex Doonan with Smokey, longest tail and tallest dog; Audry Caldwell with Patsy Cline, biggest ears; Caron Walter with Eli, best dressed; Shelby Becht with Shauntezy, had the most unusual markings; Taylor Reed with Sadie, most unusual mixture; Deyonne Schnowske with Gigi, smallest dog; Shea Vinavich with Oreo, most creative pet trick; Samantha Roberts with Lady D, only a face a mom could love; Karen Lain with Missy, looks like owner; Sandy Nussear with Chloe, best drama queen and Nicole Walsh with Diva, Main Street favorite.
