Bishop Hill will recall its past Saturday

The 112th Old Settlers’ Day celebration and the 162nd anniversary of the founding of the Bishop Hill Colony will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 in Bishop Hill.

There will be a noon concert in the village park by the “Bishop Hill Hi-Society Band,” which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Admission is free.

A traditional baked chicken dinner with homemade pie will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bishop Hill Colony School.

The program in the park begins at 1:30 with Colony descendant Paul Collinson of Galva as speaker. His ancestors were Colonists Reynolds Johnson and Olof Lind.

Colony brickyard worker Kate Danielsdotter, portrayed by Judy Middleton of Bishop Hill, will make an appearance.

Bring lawn chairs.
