IHSA Sectionals

Geneseo’s Kelsey Lieving shot her way to a place in the IHSA girls’ golf state final Oct. 13 at the Galesburg Sectional Meet.

Lieving finished the par 72 course at Lake Bracken Country Club with a score of 83.

“Kelsey did great,” said head coach Judi Nash. “She shot a 44 on the front, which is the hardest nine and she was only two over going into the last hole. She didn’t let the pressure get to her, she was solid. She recovered from bad shots and was consistent. She was real excited.”

IHSA Regionals

Lieving was the lone Lady Leaf golfer to advance to the next round in IHSA postseason action Oct. 8.

Lieving shot an 81 to be the second top scorer in the Moline Regional and the top individual sectional qualifier.

Allison Farrell finished the regional match with a 101, followed by Karah Bishop with a 103. Alyssa Wheeler recorded a 123, while Taylor Cahalan shot a 126 and Kelsey Wirth carded a 134.

The Lady Leaf squad finished the regional meet in eighth place with a team score of 408.

Lieving will compete in the IHSA State Final Oct. 17 and 18 at Stone Creek Golf Course in Makanda.
