GHS survives Ottawa

The Lady Leaf volleyball team ended the regular season with a win, 26-28, 25-23 and 25-11 over host Ottawa Oct. 23.

On the offensive side, Hillary Lyon led the team in assists with nine, while teammate Nicole Adams put away seven kills. Sarah Ward served up four aces to lead the team and also added eight assists. Burress, Hudson and Ward all contributed five kills for the night, while Lyon and Adams each served up two aces.

Defensively, Kelsey Burress and Allison Hudson both came up with five blocks to lead the team, while Katie Lenz came up with six digs. Abby Lavine finished with three blocks for the night, while Jenna Mickley ended the match with five digs.

The sophomore Lady Leafs were also victorious, 20-25, 25-16 and 25-13, while the freshman squad was defeated, 21-25 and 16-25.

Geneseo started IHSA regional action Oct. 30 against Rock Island. With a win the Lady Leafs will play at 5 p. m. Nov. 1 for the regional title. For results of the first round match, please see next week’s Geneseo Republic.
