The Geneseo High School junior varsity softball team opened the 2009 season at home March 17, but visiting Morrison spoiled the Lady Leafs homeopener with a 7-1 win.

Geneseo jumped out ahead early, 1-0 in the bottom of the first, and held on to the lead until Morrison tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third.

Morrison’s bats stayed hot in the fourth inning as the squad scored six runs to take control of the game 7-1. The Lady Leafs were unable to knock in any more runs the rest of the game as they dropped their first contest of the year.

Both squads ended the game with three hits and Bailee Kain received the loss for Geneseo.

Leading the Geneseo offense was Olivia Goethals with a triple and she scored Geneseo’s lone run of the game. Molly Allison added a double for her only hit, while Taylor Wise punched out a single and drove in Goethals.

The Lady Leafs (0-1 overall) will be back in action at 1 p.m. March 21 against Rock Falls at Bollen Field.
