Weber? Meats wins big

The walls at Weber Meats in Geneseo are covered in awards and honors won by the business and, following a successful trip to the 2009 Illinois Association of Meat Processors contest, display space for more awards will be needed.

Weber Meats entered 20 products in the 2009 show and nabbed 15 first-place wins with an additional four placing in the top four. The 2009 competition was comprised of more than 200 entires in 21 different classes.

Weber’s smoked turkey received Best of Show honors for being the overall best product at the 2009 show.

Dan Weber, owner of Weber Meats, said the Geneseo company captured grand championship titles with its smoked turkey, smoked maple sausage, spinach asiago chicken sausage, sweet Italian meatballs, fresh pork sausage and summer sausage.

Weber’s beef jerky and venison jalapeño bologna were named reserve grand champions.

Nabbing champion honors were Weber’s hickory smoked bacon, venison summer sausage, hickory smoked boneless ham and maple bacon.

Weber Meats was named grand champion in the Illinois Beef Producers’ Innovative Award category for its seasoned Delmonico steak and reserve grand champion in the Illinois Pork Producers’ Innovative Award category for its Henry County grillers.
