Independence Day events planned

The Geneseo Kiwanis Club will host its annual ‘Pork in the Park’ meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 4 in the Geneseo City Park. Pork chop sandwiches and all the fixings will be served. The Maple City Band will perform at 1 p.m. Preparing for the event are Kiwanis members Bill Schneider and James Mickley.

Fireworks, food and music will be featured in Geneseo in honor of Independence Day.

A fireworks show will start at dusk July 3 at Richmond Hill Park with a rain date of July 4. The

Geneseo ?Baseball Boosters will provide a concession stand for refreshments that evening.

The fireworks are sponsored by local businesses, including lead sponsor Hanford Insurance which contributed $5,000 toward the show. This is the second year of a five-year commitment by Hanford Insurance to be the show’s main sponsor.

Other fireworks sponsors include Creative Images, Geneseo Foundation,?Wal-Mart, Lohman Companies, Turpin Motors and Wirth Inc.

On July 4, the Geneseo Kiwanis Club will host its annual “Pork in the? Park” fund-raiser.

Pork chop sandwiches and all the fixings will be served in the city park shelter from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. An ice cream social, hosted by the Maple City Band, will be in the park at the

same time.

At 1 p.m., the Maple City Band will perform its annual Independence Day concert featuring patriotic music.
