Parade theme calls for celebration

“Let’s Celebrate” is the theme of the Orion Fall Festival parade on Saturday, Sept. 5.

The parade will lead off from the Orion High School parking lot at 1:30 p.m.

Festival committee member Deb Ford suggested the theme, which she said can be interpreted many ways.

“Even in a tough economy, Orion can still celebrate,” committee member Larry Anderson said.

Parade entries can celebrate community volunteers and families, Ford said.

The parade is one of the highlights of the festival, which will be held from Friday, Sept. 4, through Sunday, Sept. 6.

“Fall Festival almost serves as a Homecoming,” committee member Byron Carlson said.

“We have always made it a family event, with good, clean fund, fellowship and togetherness,”

Carlson continued. “It’s a great time, and it could be more important this year because families are staying home because of the economy.”

Orion Lions Club sponsored the festival from its beginning through 2008. The club decided to concentrate on its core mision of helping the vision- and hearing-impaired, and announced last fall that it could no longer host the festival.

Lions leaders called on community residents and groups to step up and take over Orion Fall Festival.

Step up they did, and the willingness of volunteers to serve their community is one thing Ford wants to celebrate with the parade.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of support in the community, from residents, businesses, schools, the Village of Orion and community groups,” Carlson said.

“Without all of that support, it would make it more difficult to do,” he said.

Boden Amusements of Bushnell once again will provide the carnival for Fall Festival.

“They’ve been wonderful for years,” committee member Jerry Meyer said.

Next week’s issue will have the schedule.
