Board member steps down, then in (to salaried work)
Altona Village Board member Steve Reffett resigned from his post and was promptly hired as the new full-time village employee at the Jan. 14 board meeting.
Reffett resigned after an executive session was held to discuss hiring him to replace Tracy Saylor, who left the position over a year ago.
The board unanimously hired Reffett, at a salary of $27,000 a year. He will get a $1,500 increase when he obtains a water services license and another $1,500 when he passes his sewer test.
In other business:
*Board member Terry Bolin reported that the board will have to look into raising water rates soon. He said Altona’s rates are lower than several surrounding communities.
*Board member Derrick Appell told the board that he would like to see all residents shovel the sidewalks in front of their homes.
