Cats pick up first LTC win

Jake McClintic and Kile Mott each registered double-doubles to lead Galva past host Princeville 51-43 and earn the Wildcats their first Lincoln Trail Conference victory of the season on Tuesday.
“We survived this one tonight,” Wildcats coach Clay Haurberg said. “Not the prettiest win, but beggars can’t be choosers. We’ll take it.”
The Cats had balanced scoring in picking up the win. McClintic tallied 14 points and had 10 rebounds, along with four steals. Mott followed with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Brennan Steward added nine points and Jake Warner and Brady Landis chipped in eight each.
On Jan. 15, a large crowd on hand for Wall of Fame activities ignited the Cats against visiting Mercer County. The hosts jumped on top of the Golden Eagles, outscoring them 17-16 in the first period and battling to a 31-27 halftime deficit.
But then things fell apart, leading to a 70-52 loss.
“Defensive breakdowns led to our demise, along with a poor third quarter on offense,” Haurberg said. “Turnovers haunted us in some key situations in the first half, but we managed to keep it close.”
