Historic home enters park district fold
Carol Townsend

The Galva Park District is now the owner of an historic home, some outbuildings and 77 acres of farm land, formerly belonging to William and Marvelle Herbster, both now deceased.
The home and outbuildings, located at 454 State Highway 17, and land are all immediately south of the park district. The Herbsters had told the park district several years ago they planned to give the property to the district upon their deaths. Mr. Herbster died several years ago. Mrs. Herbster died in November 2009.
The 77 acres will be farmed this year by Chuck Anderson of rural Galva. This fall, land-leasing bids will be accepted for the 2011 crop year.
