Former Kewanee mayor killed in Geneseo accident
Former Kewanee mayor James P. Burns was killed Wednesday afternoon, July 7, in a head-on collision on Route 6 east of Geneseo.
Henry County Coroner David Johnson said he pronounced Burns, 71, dead at the accident scene at 2:11 p.m. Wednesday.
Johnson said Burns was the sole occupant of his pickup truck, which was westbound when it collided with an eastbound pickup pulling a trailer.
The names of the driver and a passenger in the eastbound pickup were not available Wednesday.
According to a news release from the Henry County Sheriff's Office, both declined medical attention.
The sheriff's department was assisted at the accident scene by the Illinois State Police. The Geneseo Ambulance Service also responded.
An autopsy "may be pending," Johnson said.
