City asking neighbors if they're okay with alcohol nearby

The Galva City Council on July 26 discussed issuing a liquor license in a residential neighborhood.

The owner of the Galva Mansion, Steve Beasanski, had asked the city for the license so he could serve alcohol to his guests as well as for wedding receptions and parties at his business, located at 400 NW 9th St.

Several aldermen asked if there had been any feedback from any neighbors on the request. It was noted that the only way they would have known was through the council story last month in the newspaper. The council decided to have the city write a letter and send it to all neighbors of the business and get their feedback.

Mayor Tom Hartman and several aldermen said they had a hard time going with this in a residential neighborhood.
