The old viaduct which goes over the BNSF tracks about two miles west of Galva is closed. Galva Township Road Commissioner Ron Werkheiser said Monday night that IDOT closed the old structure on July 14.

The viaduct was a landmark for many years, including a place where kids wrote there names on its sides. Galva Fire Chief Denny Tarleton said the department could only get their brush truck over the structure.

The road is open from Route 34 to the viaduct.

Werkheiser said a letter has been sent to the state but it isn’t clear whether the structure will be rebuilt.
