Girl sells two of state's best at fair
The Governor’s Sale of Champions, the annual auction of prize-winning Illinois State Fair livestock, raised more than $100,000 on Aug. 17. A Victoria girl sold two grand champions.
Sarah DeSchepper of Victoria sold the Land of Lincoln Grand Champion wether for $3,300, while she also sold the grand champion wether for $7,500. Her first sale was to Channel Bio, Frank Hoffreiter and Bo Jack Seeds, while the grand champion wether was bought by North American Midway Entertainment.
A number of awards were presented Aug. 17 during Agriculture Day festivities on the director’s lawn. Henry County did particularly well. Bruce Curry’s Country Corner of Alpha was named the Agri Tourism Business of the Year. Josh and Jody Curry, also of Alpha, won the Illinois Farm Bureau award as Outstanding Farm Family.
