Mid-County boys nearly run away with LTC title

Mid-County placed four in the top 10 runners to finish second – just two points shy of champion Annawan/Wethersfield – in the Lincoln Trail Conference boys cross country meet at Howes Park in Annawan on Oct. 7.

Meanwhile, Mid-County finished a strong third in the girls field, 42 points ahead of fourth place Ridgewood.

In the boys race, Sam Whan of Mercer County was the individual champion in a time of 16:58. He was followed by Derek Foley of Mid-County at 17:11.

Joining Foley for Mid-County were Kevin O’Riley fourth at 17:34, Kevin England fifth at 17.44, Mike Keener, 10th at 19:00 and Kyle England 18th at 19.41.

A-W finished with 35 points, followed by M-C at 37. Rounding out the team standings were Mercer County 70 and Ridgewood 90.

Annawan/Wethersfield also won the girls team title, topping the field with 40 points, followed by Mercer County 50, Mid-County 56, Ridgewood, 98 and Princeville 111.

Miranda Biddle of Mercer County won the individual title in a time of 20:12.

Ridgewood’s top finisher was Jessica Nail in fifth at 21:47, while Miranda Shryack topped Mid-County with an 11th-place finish in 23:24.
