Obituary: Mary "Joanne" Stubbs

Mary “Joanne” Stubbs, 84, of New Boston died Friday, July 6, 2012, at Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Joy United Methodist Church. Burial is in the Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo.  

Memorials may be left to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Alzheimer’s Association.

She was born May 18, 1928, in Joy, the daughter of Omer and Jewell Warren Deeds. Joanne graduated from Joy High School. She married Harley D. Stubbs on July 16, 1950 at Joy United Methodist Church. He died March 7, 1979.

Joanne was employed as a secretary at Joy High School following graduation. After marriage, she was a homemaker. In 1967 she returned to the Westmer School District as high school secretary, retiring in 1993 as secretary for the Westmer Superintendent of Schools.

She was a member of Joy United Methodist Church, having been a charter member of the church choir. Joanne sang for more than 50 years. She taught piano lessons for several years.

She was active in the Quilter’s Guild and enjoyed sewing and playing cards in area card clubs.   

Survivors include a daughter, Julie (Scot) Doxstader of Orion; a son, Roger Douglas Stubbs of New Boston and his fiancée, Anita Braucht of Aledo; three grandchildren, Kyle, Eric and Brian Doxstader; two nieces, Susan Brokaw and Kathy Yadon; and a nephew, Jerry Stubbs.

Her parents; husband; a son, Danny Kevin; and a brother, Omer Deeds Jr., preceded her in death.
