Orion Middle School Football Skills Mini-Camp
Times, dates and place: 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, through Aug. 22, Orion Middle School practice field. This is a free camp for seventh and eighth graders.
What to bring: Shorts, cleats or tennis shoes, and water or sports drink.

Orion Youth Tackle Football
Age divisions: Orion football players now in fourth and fifth grade, who will be in fifth and sixth grade this fall. Players must turn 10 or older sometime during fifth grade, and cannot turn 13 before Sept. 15 during sixth grade.
Registration: Orion is affiliated with the Youth Sports Foundation. Since the registration date has passed, the league will charge a late fee.
Schedule: Coaches will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Love Park. Equipment handout and parents' meeting will be at 4 p.m.
During practices that begin Monday, Aug. 12, players will be introduced to tackle football. The first two practices will be helmets only, and after that with full pads.
Practices will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for the first two weeks. After that, practices will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
A scrimmage will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, at a time and place to be announced later.
The six-game schedule begins Sunday, Sept. 8.

Orion Youth Volleyball
Ages: Fourth through sixth grade girls.
Schedule: Practices start in August. Games will be on Saturday afternoons in September and October.
Registration: Deadline was Friday, Aug. 9. Forms are available on the Orion school district website, http://orionschools.us, under the Schools tab on the right (look for Student Camps & Leagues).

Orion High School Volleyball
Dates, times and places: Tryouts and practices begin Wednesday, Aug. 14. Varsity — 3:25 to 6 p.m. Aug. 14 through Friday, Aug. 16, and 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, Orion High School. Freshmen and sophomores — 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 14 and Thursday, Aug. 15, practice gym.
What to complete: All athletes must have a completed physical form, a signed permission slip, a signed drug-testing form and an insurance waiver before they can try out or practice. All forms are available in the OHS office.

The Orion Gazette regularly publishes registration, tryout, camp and tournament information. To have your league or team included in "Play Ball!" you may leave a registration form in the Orion Gazette box at any of the three Orion schools. (Ask the office staff where to leave the form.)
