Andrew Sigwalt has been hired as the new superintendent of recreation at the Geneseo Park District.

As a Geneseo native, Sigwalt said he had the opportunity to grow up and experience the advantages of the Geneseo Park District and their facilities.

“I did not know at the time, but my experiences (with the Geneseo Park District) would help direct my educational opportunities and career goals,” he said.

Sigwalt attended Eastern Illinois University where he graduated with a degree in recreation administration with a minor in business administration.

Sigwalt has worked at different park districts in his career, most recently he worked for the Kingsport, Tenn., Parks and Recreation Department.

“Over the past few years, I have observed the wonderful changes being made around the Geneseo Park District, most notably the new Aquatic Center, and it has inspired a desire to want to become a part of these wonderful changes,” he said. “I have cherished the knowledge and experiences that I have gained while working in Kingsport, but I am excited to start this new adventure with the Geneseo Park District and to reunite my family with our family, friends, and the community of Geneseo.”

Sigwalt will start his new role on Jan. 9.
