Geneseo police hosting drug take-back

Officers with the Geneseo Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will host a prescription drug collection from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Geneseo’s City Hall.

The collection will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

The service is free and anonymous. No questions will be asked. The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.

According to information provided by the DEA, medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends.

Traditional methods for disposing of unused medicine, including flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, pose potential safety and health hazards.
