Toliver leads Salvation Army
Eddie Toliver is the new director of the Kewanee Salvation Army, and will oversee Salvation Army operations for the entire county.
On Oct. 23, long-time director Linda Bolls retired from the position, and Toliver was selected to replace her.
Toliver started working at the Salvation Army’s Kewanee store in 2011, where he often observed the store’s needs and attempted to come up with creative solutions.
His hard work and dedication were noticed by Bolls, who would urge him to seek the position as store assistant manager.
“I saw where there were some needs here and there and I started filling in and doing those things, and then Linda approached with a good heart and gave me a shot at assistant manager and then from there I moved to manager,” Toliver said.
Toliver retains his occupation as store manager while also being the Kewanee Salvation Army director.
Toliver recently completed his spiritual and emotional care training, becoming qualified in disaster work. He said he intends to expand on already established rules and changes in relation to the store currently.
He hopes to increase the amount of donation kettle sites for the holidays as well, and is positive there will be an increase in donations made this year.
Toliver also said the organization has opened the basement of the store, where larger and more furnished items can be found. The store also will be conducting more sales in the coming years.
Toliver graduated from Monmouth College in 1975 with degrees in secondary education and history.
The Kewanee Salvation Army store is open Mondays through Saturdays at 119 N. Tremont Street.
The Kewanee Salvation Army is in need of volunteers. To volunteer, contact the store at (309) 853-4192.
“We couldn't run without the volunteers and the staff,” he said. “They’re all dedicated.”
