50TH on the 24th
Roses are red,
Violets are grays;
For all the days!
The DU Geneseo Chapter 093 will host their 41st Annual “Super Banquet” on Saturday, September 25, 2021. This big event will be held at the Best Western Inn, Annawan, IL. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the buffet dinner served at 6 p.m. Their 2020 event was a wash because of the pandemic, but this year’s event is going to be bigger than ever. It will be a new venue with new raffles and more chances to win a new shotgun, hunting rifle, etc. Over 40 brand new firearms will be offered. I’ve been to several of these DU banquets and the organizers of the event, Dale and Linda Doubler, and their volunteers do a great job. Seating is limited and no tickets will be sold at the door. Reservations are due by September 4, 2021. Remittance should be sent to: Dale Doubler, PO Box 142, Cambridge, IL, 61238. For ticket information, etc. go to: Geneseo, IL, Ducks Unlimited Banquet. You might even be able to meet some famous people like Tom Vandemore, Vern Mariman, Grant Hatch, Wayne Peterson, or the “Gunslinger.” Okay, that’s a stretch. If we’re lucky, they won’t show up!
PMG, A WW2 Player
I just finished a very interesting book entitled, “The Pacific War Papers” edited by Donald M. Goldstein and Katherine V. Dillon. In short, the book contains WW2 documents translated from Japanese into English. Some Japanese high officials tried not to bring America into war, but they were not willing to pull out of China and their quest for Asian domination. The Japanese Army pulled all the strings over their government. They had Japan’s Emperor where they wanted him as to going to war. One thing I found odd is the roll of our then Postmaster General (PMG), Frank C. Walker. He was a big player in American/Japanese negotiations in 1940/41 with President Franklin Roosevelt, his Secretary of State, and others. Can you imagine Biden or Trump seeking advice from the head of the Post Office?
I’m not a Biden fan because of his policies, or lack of, but in my opinion, he did the correct move by bringing our troops home after 20 years of death, lasting injuries and destruction.
Henry County Museum
This historic museum is now open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It closes for the season on October 31, 2021. It is located a block and a half west of the main street in Bishop Hill, IL. With all the recent up-dates to the museum, donations are more than welcome!
Now Theresa Peterson is a very smart gal. So, the other day I asked her “if” dogs are descendants of wolves, then what are wolves’ descendant of? She said, “dogs!” She’s married to Wayne so enough said. A baseball has exactly 108 stitches and they all come unraveled if thrown by a Cubs pitcher! What does the ocean say when greeting its friends? Nothing! It just waves. What do you call an alligator crime detective? An investi-gator.
