Orion sports physicals Aug. 4

Pre-sport physicals keep young athletes safe

The Orion school district will schedule sports physicals from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Orion Middle School.

Appointments may be scheduled on the school website.

Sixth graders and ninth graders do not need a sports physical because they must have a complete physical before entering middle school or high school. They need to have the doctor giving the physical check “Interscholastic Sports” on the bottom of the physical form. Athletic directors will need a copy of the form.

Students entering other grades who plan to go out for a school sport, including cheerleading and spirit squad, need sports physicals on IHSA cards the school will provide. Parents must fill out and sign the card and a questionnaire before the physical. Both forms must accompany the student to the appointment.

All physicals are valid for 390 days (about 13 months), according to the Illinois High School Association. Students going into sixth or ninth grade who had physicals before the end of the 2020-21 school year may need a sports physical if they plan to go out for sports in spring 2022.
