Start of school nears for C.R. Hanna students
The run-up to the start of school is underway at C.R. Hanna Elementary School, Orion.
Returning students are registering online. The school office reopens on Monday, Aug. 2. New students will begin to register on Wednesday, Aug. 4.
Early childhood screening will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the school. Children at least 3 years old, but have not started kindergarten, are invited to the screening if they live in the school district. To detect learning delays, children will have their speech, vision and hearing tested, as well as large and small motor skills.
Parents and legal guardians are encouraged to come with their children. A parent must fill out and sign registration forms before the screening begins.
To make an appointment, phone the superintendent’s office at (309) 526-3388 before Aug. 2.
Parents no longer have to crowd the C.R. Hanna doors on a hot Friday afternoon to check class lists. The school will post them at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, on its webpage, https://crh.orionschools.us/.
The school will be scheduling kindergarten visits for noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12. During the individual conferences, children will visit their classroom, meet the teacher, choose a desk and put supplies away.
Also on Aug. 12 will be Backpack Night for first through fifth grade students and their families. Backpack Night has an open-house format allowing classroom visits from 4 to 6 p.m. Parents can turn in missing forms, and their children can put school supplies in their desks.
Friday, Aug. 13, is the last day to return physical and dental exams to the district office or to school nurse Kenis Johnson.
The first day of school for kindergarten through 12th grade will be Monday, Aug. 16.
Preschool parents have a mandatory meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18. The preschool open house will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20. Preschoolers will start school on Monday, Aug. 23.
